More Testing
A key subsystem for space based solar power (SBSP) is wireless power transmission (WPT) using radio frequency beams to move power from obit to the ground. This technology will allow power to be collected in orbit and used on earth.
Unlike solar panels, it is possible to receive power even when a receiver is covered with contaminants.
Getting ready for next year, we're building lab fixtures to demonstrate that wireless power transmission is robust. We'll be simulating and testing common contaminants like the dew, rain, snow, ice, dust, sand that will coat receivers located on the ground. This will help validate assumptions on the maintenance costs for these systems.
