Data Centers - Growing Demand for Clean Power
The amount of energy required for data centers is increasing dramatically [1]. In the US, data centers consume about 1-2% of total electricity generation. Today, electric vehicles consume about the same amount today [2]. These new & growing demands coupled with increased electrification and increasing global wealth are expected to drive as much as a doubling of global electric generation capacity by 2050. [3] That new capacity will require a lot of resources to construct and connect to the global electric grid. Finding better ways to deliver that power is a huge opportunity.
Space based solar power offers a solution to power this growing need and locate the data centers where it makes the most sense.
